Subtract the empty weight including mounted options from the permitted mass. Also take into account axle loads, load distribution and tractor and route limitations.

A lifting axle can limit tire wear and rolling resistance when the trailer is lightly loaded. A steering axle improves maneuverability, but adds technology and maintenance.

The dish and kingpin height determine whether the combination is level and has sufficient free space. An incorrect combination can adversely affect axle loads, stability and space between tractor and trailer.

Inspect chassis, floor, axles, brakes, air springs, support legs and superstructure for wear and damage. Also check doors, sails, cooling system or hydraulics if they are present.
