Buying a truck: what should you pay attention to?
The right truck depends on the work, the load and the routes you drive. Therefore, not only compare brand and price, but also structure, axle configuration, cabin and deployment costs.
Search suggestions
Which truck suits my work?
Start with the cargo and the way of loading and unloading. Distribution, construction transport and international transport each require a different combination of chassis, structure, loading capacity and cabin.
What does an axis configuration such as 4x2, 6x2 or 6x4 mean?
The numbers describe the number of wheel positions and driven positions. An additional driven axle usually provides more traction, while a steered or liftable axle can improve maneuverability and efficiency with varying loads.
How much engine power does a truck need?
Required power depends on total weight, terrain, speed and deployment. More power is not automatically cheaper: also consider torque, transmissions, fuel consumption and maintenance costs.
Do I choose a day cabin or sleeper cabin?
A day cabin keeps the vehicle compact and often leaves more space for the superstructure. For multi-day journeys, bed, storage space, headroom and climate comfort in a sleeping cabin are more important.
What do I check on a used truck?
Check maintenance history, mileage, tires, brakes, leaks, emission system and operation of the body. If in doubt, also have the chassis, drivetrain and electronic fault codes independently inspected.
