Buying a tipper: what should you pay attention to?
With a tipper, material, loading weight and surface determine which chassis and which loading platform are suitable. Compare load capacity, axle configuration, tipping direction and condition of the hydraulic system.
Search suggestions
Do I choose a rear tipper or three-way tipper?
A rear tipper is common for bulk transport and easy unloading. A three-sided tipper offers more flexibility on tight construction sites where you cannot always unload straight back.
When do I need 6x4 or 8x4?
More driven axles provide traction on loose or uneven surfaces and distribute heavy loads. For many road kilometers, a lighter configuration can be more efficient, provided payload and axle loads remain appropriate.
Do I choose a steel or aluminum loading platform?
Steel is abrasion resistant to stone, rubble and heavy material. Aluminum reduces its own weight and can provide more payload, but is more susceptible to damage from hard or sharp loads.
How do I assess the hydraulic tipping system?
Check cylinder, hoses, pump, PTO and hinge points for leaks, play and damage. Test the system with sufficient safety space and ensure smooth movement without jerking.
What do I check on a used tipper body?
Inspect the underbody, side walls, tailgate and subframe for wear, deformation and weld repairs. Uneven wear may indicate heavy loads or unstable use.
