Buy a MAN truck or commercial vehicle
MAN has a model line from light commercial vehicles to heavy tractor units, construction vehicles and buses. TGX, TGS, TGM and TGL refer to different weight classes and deployment profiles; the TGE is the van range.
First determine whether the vehicle is needed for long-distance, distribution, construction, service work or passenger transport. Then the cabin, axle configuration, structure and drivetrain become decisive.
TGX, TGS, TGM and TGL
The TGX is widely used for heavy and international transport. The TGS can be widely used for construction, heavy distribution work and specialist superstructures. TGM and TGL serve lighter and medium-duty applications, including city and regional distribution.
There are different cabins, engines and chassis shapes within each series. A TGX tractor unit is therefore not directly comparable to a TGX chassis or a TGS tipper.
TGE, MAN buses and older generations
The MAN TGE is the light commercial vehicle and is available as a van, chassis and passenger version. For MAN buses, city, regular and coach versions each have different requirements for doors, floor height, seats and luggage space.
The used market also includes the older TGA alongside several generations of TGX and TGS. Check year of manufacture, cabin and emission class to prevent different generations from being assessed as equivalent.
What should you check when buying a used MAN?
Look beyond the serial letters. The chosen cabin, engine, wheelbase and axles determine whether a MAN is suitable for international transport, urban distribution or heavy off-road work.
- Series, generation, cabin and exact vehicle version.
- tractor unit, chassis or van and existing superstructure.
- Axle configuration, suspension, wheelbase and permitted mass.
- Engine power, transmission, retarder and emission class.
- Maintenance history, mileage and operating hours of the structure.
- PTO, hydraulics, towing equipment and other job-specific options.
