Buying agricultural machinery: what should you pay attention to?

An agricultural machine must suit the crop, soil, company size and existing implements. Capacity, connections, tires and maintenance are often more important than just year of manufacture or power.

Search suggestions

How do I choose the right agricultural machine?

Start with the operation, desired capacity and conditions on the land. Compare working width, required power, ground pressure, transport width and connection to your existing machines.

Are operating hours more important than year of construction?

Hours provide insight into use, but do not tell how heavy or how well maintained a machine is. Combine hours with maintenance history, wear points and the nature of previous work.

Which connections should I check?

Check PTO, hydraulic connections, linkage, electronics and brake or air connections. Capacity, direction of rotation and standards must match the tools you use.

Do I choose tires or tracks?

Tires are versatile and efficient on the road, while tracks can reduce ground pressure and wheel slip. Compare soil type, transport distance, maintenance and replacement costs.

What do I inspect a used agricultural machine for?

View bearings, chains, blades, hydraulics, drive, frame and electronic functions under load. Also check parts availability and support for the make and model.
