Buying an aerial work platform: what should you pay attention to?
The right aerial work platform is determined by working height, lateral reach, surface and available space. First choose the work profile and then compare machine shape, drive, platform capacity and transport dimensions.
Search suggestions
What is the difference between working height and platform height?
Working height is usually higher than the maximum floor height of the platform and assumes an average reaching height of the user. Therefore, compare machines on the same specification and allow extra margin for the task.
Do I choose a scissor lift or articulated boom lift?
A scissor lift offers a large platform and goes straight up. An articulating or telescopic boom lift is suitable when you need to reach over obstacles or further to the side.
When do I choose electric, diesel or hybrid?
Electric is quiet and suitable for many indoor locations. Diesel often offers more off-road capability and outdoor deployment time; hybrid can be interesting when indoor and outdoor work are combined.
Which tires and drive do I need?
Flat industrial floors require something different than construction sites with soft or uneven ground. Pay attention to four-wheel drive, ground clearance, non-marking tires, stabilization and permitted lean angle.
What do I check on a used aerial work platform?
Test emergency controls, sensors, brakes, hydraulics, battery or engine and all movements. Check hours, maintenance, inspections and wear on hinge points, platform and cables.
